Chargers defeat Cascade
North Montgomery defeated Cascade 172-179 on Wednesday at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.
Medalist was Charger Hayden Allen who shot a 40. Other Charger scores were Brody Roche 41, Isaac Hamby 42 and Jackson Grundy 49.
The Chargers will compete next Saturday in the Southmont Invitational at Crawfordsville Country Club.
Athenians split 3-way
Crawfordsville split a three-way meet on Wednesday. The Athenians lost to Lafayette Central Catholic but defeated Western Boone by one stroke.
Team scores were Central Catholic 160, Crawfordsville 171 and Western Boone 172.
Athenian scores were Caiden Murray 42, Colton Custer 42, Owen Pierce 43 and Jude Hurt 44.
Crawfordsville will compete next on Saturday at the Southmont Invitational at Crawfordsville Country Club.
South falls to Tiger Cubs
Southmont fell Wednesday to Greencastle 166-169.
The Mounties were led by Carter Ludlow 38, Noah Vogel and Austin Foley 43 and Ethan Hutchison 45.
The South Gray team also participated and shot 187. Hunter Thompson led the gray team with a 42 followed by Conner Walls 46 and Owen McCutchan and Jack Sarver 47.
The Mounties will host their own 12-team invitational Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club starting at 9 a.m.
SOFTBALL
Mounties dominate Hot Dogs
Southmont completed this week’s Monon Athletic Conference series with Frankfort with a 22-0 blanking of the Hot Dogs. The Mounties scored 43 runs and allowed one in the two MAC games.
The Mounties had 17 hits and were led by Emily Simpson’s three hits with two RBI.
South’s Ella Barry pitched five innings and recorded 13 strikeouts in the shutout.
Southmont (8-2, 4-2 MAC) will play Monday at Covington (9-4).
Chargers lose to Tiger Cubs
North Montgomery dropped a 5-1 game Wednesday at Greencastle. The Chargers struggled offensively and did not get a hit in the Monon Athletic Conference contest.
Freshman pitcher Mary Kate Patterson pitched six innings for North and surrendered five runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
The Chargers committed six errors.
The Chargers (1-10, 0-6 MAC) play today at Faith Christian (0-9). Greencastle (10-0, 6-0 MAC) traveled Thursday to Owen Valley (4-5).
Cascade downs Athenians
For the second straight day, Crawfordsville did not score a run against Monon Athletic Conference foe Cascade. The Athenians lost 14-0 on Wednesday.
Athenians Madison Martin and Tori Truax had singles representing Crawfordsville’s only two hits.
Crawfordsville (1-10, 0-6 MAC) plays host to West Lafayette (8-2) at 5:30 p.m. today. Cascade (9-0, 6-0 MAC) will play Center Grove on Monday.
Patriots sweep Mustangs
Seeger scored 15 runs in the last three innings on the road and defeated Fountain Central 15-6 on Wednesday.
Fountain Central led 2-0 after three innings until Seeger’s offense took off. Seeger (6-3, 4-0 WRC) ended the game with 18 hits.
Mustang Jackie Weber led her team with two hits, including a home run, giving her one RBI in the game.
Fountain Central (6-5, 2-4 WRC) played Thursday at home against Clay City and will host Wabash River Conference rival North Vermillion at 3 pm. Saturday in a schedule change.
BASEBALL
Tiger Cubs complete comeback
Trailing 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth innings, Greencastle stormed back to defeat North Montgomery 7-5 in a Monon Athletic Conference game on the Tiger Cubs diamond.
The Chargers led 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning but the Tiger Cubs scored three runs in the bottom half of the sixth frame.
Sophomore Carter Thompson started the game for North and pitched three innings and gave up just two hits with six strikeouts.
Three Charger relief pitchers, Aiden Ambriz-Cruz, Keaton Brown and Crew Cole, were unable to hold down the Tiger Cubs potent offense. Combined the relievers gave up five runs on seven hits.
The Chargers gave up 11 walks in the game.
Thompson and Ambriz-Cruz each had two of the six hits to lead the Chargers’ offense.
The Chargers (8-2, 4-3 MAC) will play host at 11 a.m. Saturday to Bethesda Christian (5-4) in a schedule change. The game will be North Montgomery Youth Baseball Day and all Charger youth baseball players will be introduced.
Cascade beats Athenians
After losing to Crawfordsville on Tuesday, Cascade traveled to the Athenian Sport Complex and came out with guns firing. The Cadets plated 11 runs in the first inning, propelling them to an 18-1 Monon Athletic Conference victory in five innings.
Crawfordsville used five pitchers in the game and gave up 18 earned runs.
Athenian Mason McCarty was 2-for-2 including a double to lead his team. Landon Gerold singled in Henry Bannon in the fifth inning for Crawfordsville’s lone run.
Crawfordsville (6-5, 3-3 MAC) will travel Saturday to Lebanon (4-8) for a 10 a.m. game. Cascade (5-3, 5-1 MAC) will play today at home against Clinton Prairie.
Hot Dogs sweep Mounties
Frankfort defeated visiting Southmont 12-0 on Wednesday by giving the Hot Dogs a Monon Athletic Conference sweep this week.
Frankfort jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and led after four innings 6-0 before scoring six runs in the fifth inning to end the game.
Southmont was held to just two hits and committed five errors.
Three Mountie pitchers allowed just two earned runs on eight hits.
Southmont (1-7, 0-6 MAC) will entertain South Putnam (3-2) tonight at 5:30 p.m. Frankfort (6-4, 4-2 MAC) plays Lebanon tonight.
Mustangs bounce Patriots
Fountain Central bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to defeat Seeger 14-7 in a Wabash River Conference game. The Mustang offense scored five out of six at-bats and collected 13 hits.
The game was tied 6-6 after three innings but Fountain Central scored eight unanswered runs to finish the game.
Mustang Ayden Batchelor had three hits including a home run and he recorded five RBI.
Fountain Central’s Asher Davis pitched a complete game and struck out nine Patriots.
The Mustangs (2-7, 2-4 WRC) will play a doubleheader at North Vermillion (2-6, 2-4 WRC) at 1 p.m. Saturday. Seeger (3-6, 3-1 WRC) played host Thursday to Riverton Parke.
TENNIS
Athenians blank Tigers
Crawfordsville traveled Wednesday to Lebanon and defeated the Tigers 3-2.
Winning for the Athenians were No. 1 singles CC Cox 6-4, 6-2, No. 2 singles Mable Hoar 6-1, 6-0 and No. 1 doubles Isla Seward and Alayna Hall 6-1, 6-0.
The Athenians (4-0, 2-0 MAC) will travel May 6 to Fountain Central for a non-conference match.
Mustangs beat Chargers
Fountain Central played host Wednesday to North Montgomery and won 5-0.
Match scores were No. 1 singles Elise Webb defeated Kate Merica 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 and No. 2 singles Laney Hoagland defeated Cassidy Thomas 6-3, 6-2. Mustang No. 3 singles Esme Muniz beat Caelyn Carpenter 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action, No. 1 doubles Savannah Bowers and Lilly Peterson defeated Annie Hess and Izzy Shrader 6-0, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Rya Jackson and Jayden Larkin beat Isabelle Hamby and Scarlette Hamm.
The Mustangs (6-1, 3-1 WRC) travel Monday to take on Lafayette Central Catholic. The Chargers (4-5, 0-2 MAC) played host to Lebanon on Thursday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GOLF
South defeats Tri-West
Southmont defeated Tri-West 168-179 on Monday at the Crawfordsville Country Club. Southmont scores were medalist Hunter Tallman 31, Jack Cripe 37, Ryan Gilliland 49 and Calvin Hauster 51. Mounties Jeffrey Hopkins and Henry Rosen also carded 51 scores.
Tallman set a school record with the four-under-par 31.
The Mounties (2-0) played Frankfort on Thursday at Frankfort Commons Golf Course.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS
South blanks Frankfort
The Southmont Junior High girls tennis team defeated Frankfort with a perfect 5–0 win.
In singles play, Lea Gregg won 8-4, Ailise Bradshaw dominated 8-0 and Izzy Roberts won 8–4.
In doubles, Andrea Allen and Rachel Reimondo won 8-1, while Kailyn Howard and Tori Frazier earned an 8-2 victory.
Additional winners included Abigail Badillo and Candice Gillogly with a 6-1 win.
