Scott to realize dream at UIndy

An opportunity to play college baseball is a dream come true for Carson Scott.

The recent Crawfordsville graduate is headed to his dream school to play the sport he fell in love with at a young age.

“I visited UIndy on a regular student visit early first semester of 2019,” Scott said. “When I first stepped on campus I just knew this was the place for me. What made it set in stone for me was when I received an email from UIndy’s coach Ready asking if I was interested in coming to play. I have always dreamt of being a collegiate athlete ever since I was a young kid. It’s something everyone dreams about. You get to have a spotlight while doing something you love.”

As a junior Scott hit .308 for the Athenians, which solidified three straight seasons of hitting .300 or better. And he says he owes his opportunity to play college baseball in part to the program and his parents that made him the player he is today.

“I believe your environment has a strong hand in the success you achieve,” he said. “I cannot thank my parents enough for what they have done and the sacrifices they have made to put me in such a great environment like Crawfordsville. With them being able to put me in this setting surrounded by great coaches such as Froedge as well as my teachers I was able to find the success on and off the field leading me to UIndy.”

He also hopes his experience as a Crawfordsville baseball player will transfer to his time as a Greyhound.

“College academics and baseball will challenge me more than anything I’ve been up against before,” Scott said. “I think the biggest thing from the Crawfordsville baseball program that will translate to the college level is the discipline that is demanded as well as the concept of team. Coach Froedge demanded from every one of us to always do the right things, at the right times, for all the right reasons. He also made sure we were always one team and one unit.”

Scott says while his goal as a young boy was to become a professional baseball player, that his goals have changed over the years.

“After getting into high school and playing for coach Froedge my goals have changed,” he said. “I want to find success through my teammates. As a team I want to win together as one unit. My other goal is to find ways to use my collegiate platform to give back. The people in the Crawfordsville community have given me so much support through my high school career to get me where I want to be and it’s time to help give back.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Scott missed the chance to leave a final mark on the Athenian baseball program, but is thankful for another opportunity to lace up his cleats.

“Missing my senior baseball season has made me more humble,” he said. “I am blessed to have another opportunity to competitively play this sport. There is a large number of senior athletes across the nation that won’t have another chance to play. So this situation has made me more motivated to work harder to win championships because at the end of the day we did not get to finish out our careers but I feel as if I’m playing for my close friends I graduated with who decided to not continue their career after high school. Owen Bennett, Cale macCarty, Gabe Joyner, and Tyson Hendon, all played with me helping me get to the position I am in today. I could never thank them enough either for helping support me.”
