WAVELAND — The Indiana Department of Transportation announces State Road 59 will close on or after April 10 for phase one of a bridge replacement and road reconstruction project, near Waveland. S.R. 59 will be closed from S.R. 47 to Green Street. It’s expected to reopen after early October, weather permitting.

The official detour follows S.R. 47 to S.R. 234 to U.S. 231 to S.R. 236 and back to S.R. 59.

This contract was awarded to Beaty Construction Inc. for $6.9 million. This will be a phased construction project. This year will involve the removal and reconstruction of the bridge over Little Raccoon Creek. Phase Two will begin in 2024, and will involve the section of S.R. 59 that runs through the town of Waveland. Phase Two will not involve a closure, but will require lane restrictions as necessary. The entire contract is expected to be completed in late July 2024, weather permitting.
