There is plenty going on, just not some of the regular stuff, as we finish August.
First — a welcome to the many (and we mean many) race fans in for everything happening out at Tom’s and Ironman Raceway this weekend.
It doesn’t have an international flavor like last year, but there are lots of championships to be decided over these couple days at one of the premier racing facilities in the world.
We hope all our guests have a great time.
Yes, there is high school football and all the fall sports well in operation to keep us locals hopping.
There have been Colts preseason games, with the last one today in fact, and there was a Fever game last night, so it is a short night in Indy between events.
But that is fine.
NFL for real starts in two weeks, and there will be plenty of action to write about later.
So this weekend, and maybe all or part of next weekend, will the last pause for this guy.
I’m looking forward to it, and I’ve been in touch with all the regular characters.
There was even a really fun text from a director that was with Fox for years, and I was on his crew. He got a great deal, and the opportunity to do another Super Bowl, so switched over to ESPN and ABC. He is only doing Monday Night games and as mentioned, the Super Bowl at the end of this season. Always fun to catch up with friends.
Everything at Fox is getting caught up. I have done all the HR forms for the season, have updated countless passwords and got some training on some new stuff. This old dog has to learn a new trick every once in a while.
We also have to remember to keep our eyes open on the road.
There were three moments piled up on top of each other in just one trip home last Saturday.
It was after the Colts game, and it was warm and sunny. No rain as any excuse.
As I tried to merge on to 70 going west from downtown, a semi must not have seen me, so I got a little driving on the shoulder in.
Then, as I was in the correct lane to merge on to Sam Jones, an SUV did the three-lane jump to the right, right in front of about five of us.
Not to be out-done, an Illinois car was not paying attention and did the two-lane late lane change getting on to 74.
Makes me realize the yellow-light dashers here in town aren’t quite so bad as that.
Again, welcome to our guests, have a great time at Ironman or wherever your weekend takes you.
Safe travels.
