Valpo declared ineligible to compete

American Legion state champion Valparaiso Post 94 has been declared ineligible to compete in the Great Lakes Regional in Lexington, Kentucky. The ruling was the result of finding Post 94 was ineligible due to participating in a collegiate league after the start of the Indiana state tournament had begun.

Post 94 advanced to the Great Lakes Regional after winning the state championship with a 1-0 win over Terre Haute Post 11.

Post 94 was the team that eliminated Crawfordsville Post 72 from the double-elimination tournament in a semi-final game.

Post 72 officials protested Valparaiso’s use of several ineligible players to Indiana Legion officials during the state championship but Indiana American Legion Baseball Commissioner Mike Colbert shrugged off the complaint and allowed Valpo to play in the tournament.

Before the regional began the Wisconsin State Champion was forced to exit the tournament due to the lack of players available to play. Terre Haute Post 11 was invited to the tournament to replace Wisconsin leaving Indiana with one team still in the tournament.

Terre Haute advanced to the second round of the Great Lake Regional since they were scheduled to play Valparaiso in the first game of the tournament.
