Wabash records 32 top-five finishes at Huntsman Family Invite

Wabash College turned in a strong all-around performance Saturday at its home Huntsman Family Invitational, piling up 32 top-five finishes across the non-scoring outdoor meet at Huntsman Track inside Little Giant Stadium.

Quinn Sholar produced another standout meet with three event victories and one runner-up finish. He won the discus at 44.22 meters, captured the shot put with a top toss of 15.38 meters, and finished second in the hammer throw at 53.72 meters. He also continued his strong outdoor campaign with a second-place hammer effort of 53.72 meters to set a new career-best mark.

Wabash added depth in the throws behind Sholar. Lane Brockman placed fourth in the hammer at 49.36 meters, while Evan Furuness took fifth at 46.77 meters. Furuness also finished third in the discus at 39.83 meters.

On the track, freshman Brock DeBello claimed the 400-meter dash title in 48.88 seconds. Morgyn Clark added a fifth-place finish in the event at 52.88.

The Little Giants controlled the 1,500-meter run, placing four runners in the top five. David Adesanya won the race in 4:04.98, followed by Sam Carpenter in third (4:05.92), Tyler Kerzee in fourth (4:07.73), and Angel Perez in fifth (4:09.72).

Wabash also earned victories in the 800 and triple jump. Sam Vaught won the 800 in 1:55.34, while Sly Williams captured the triple jump with a leap of 13.72 meters. Mike Holsclaw finished second in the triple jump at 12.28 meters. Sawyer Lewis added a fifth-place finish in the 800 at 2:01.85.

The Little Giants’ field-event success continued in the vertical jumps. Nate Joven finished second in the pole vault at 4.09 meters, Hugh Ford placed third at 3.99 meters, Ricky Sanders took fourth at 3.69 meters, and Ryan Adams tied for fifth at 3.69 meters. In the high jump, Clark cleared 1.87 meters for second place, while Kannon Chase added a fourth-place finish at 1.82 meters.

Chase also contributed in the jumps with a sixth-place finish in the long jump, narrowly missing another top-five result, while Ricardo Juarez placed second in the javelin at 41.79 meters and Jesse Herrera added fifth at 37.43 meters.

On the hurdles side, Owen Smith led Wabash with a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles in 57.71, followed by Sanders in third (59.70) and Alec Saidian in fifth (1:00.88).

Additional top-five efforts came from Jack Loftus in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (third, 10:10.77), Thomas Price in the 5,000 meters (second, 16:32.21), and Carter Leininger in the 100-meter dash (third, 11.01).

Wabash’s relay teams also turned in strong performances. The 4x100 relay quartet of Williams, Smith, Tanner Brooks, and Carter Leininger placed second in 43.39, while the 4x400 relay team of Smith, Adesanya, Clark, and DeBello also finished runner-up in 3:26.34.

Wabash will compete Saturday at Greenville University.
