Professor Dan Rogers, right, a Spanish professor at Wabash College, spoke to the Crawfordsville Rotary Club at their meeting. Rogers talked about a grant for $25 million that Wabash received from Lily. This was the largest grant ever received from Lily. A marketing company was hired to do research called "Town and Gown" to study the relationship between Wabash and the city. Areas covered included: child care, possibly a Latino community\cultural center and getting Wabash College people involved in the community. A goal of this project is to help make Crawfordsville people feel more comfortable at Wabash College. Also pictured is Rotarian Richard Walker.
Rogers Visits Rotary

Nick Tokman, known for his appearances on the television show "The Deadliest Catch," recently delivered an inspiring message to students at Parke Heritage Middle School and Parke Heritage High School as well as fourth and fifth graders at Rockville Elementary School and Turkey Run Elementary School. Encouraging them to take control of their lives, he asked a thought-provoking question: "Are you the captain of your life, or are you standing behind the wheel and letting others guide you?" This powerful message of empowerment resonated with the students, urging them to embrace leadership and responsibility for their own paths. Following his motivational speech, Nick Tokman engaged with the students, posing for photos and signing autographs. His presence and words likely left a lasting impact on the young audience, encouraging them to reflect on their own roles in shaping their futures. By embodying the idea of becoming their own captains, these students were encouraged to pursue their dreams and do what makes them happy. At Parke Heritage Middle School, the FFA chapter members held a “Kiss the Goat’’ event for FFA Week. Students voted for staff members to be the lucky ones to kiss “Nacho,” the goat. FFA member Landon Berry raised the most money with $143.17 to be the officer member to kiss the goat. Max Jeffries was second and Kamden Shields came in third. For the staff voting, the “new kid on the block,” Shawn Goldsberry won top honors. Also kissing Nacho were Mrs. Lisa Wrightsman, school resource officer Tyler Milner and Mrs. Kylie Gates. Students were also invited to guess the number of kernels in a glass jar, which held 1,747 pieces of corn. Emmylou Rader was only off by six guessing 1,753. New Market Elementary Student Council donated $1,082 to Riley Children’s Hospital. Students sold icons, pencils and bracelets during the month of February. Glenna Livesay, student council advisor for 23 years, said the student council has donated $25,311 in that time period. The council is caring about their community and is continually on the lookout for local students or families in need of assistance. The council also conducts a spirit day every month to benefit the Veterans Memorial Park, they volunteer monthly at the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, conduct an annual talent show and put on an Easter egg hunt for first graders in the school. This year the council is comprised of 19 students.
