CARA to offer construction training program

The Crawfordsville Adult Resource Academy has been selected as one of 25 adult education programs nationwide to receive a competitive construction grant aimed at expanding workforce training opportunities.

The grant, awarded through the Coalition on Adult Basic Education in partnership with the National Center for Construction Education and Research, will allow the academy to launch a new construction training program in August. The program will serve adult learners in Crawfordsville and Montgomery County with a focus on hands-on skills and industry-recognized credentials.

Meredith Boaz, director of the academy, said the funding will help open new opportunities for both students and the local workforce.

“This opportunity allows us to open new doors for our students and our community,” Boaz said. “Crawfordsville Adult Resource Academy is honored to be selected to receive the grant. This investment will equip our adult learners with the skills and credentials needed to access sustainable, family-supporting careers while strengthening the workforce pipeline in Montgomery County.”

The construction industry continues to face a shortage of skilled workers nationwide. The new program aims to address that need by preparing participants for immediate employment while supporting local economic growth.

Students enrolled in the program will receive training aligned with National Center for Construction Education and Research standards, along with OSHA 10 certification. Both credentials are recognized by employers across the country.

“This program represents more than job training, it’s a pathway to long-term stability and success for our students,” Boaz said. “We are proud to bring this opportunity to Crawfordsville and to play a role in building a stronger community.”

Enrollment details for the August program will be announced at a later date.

The Crawfordsville Adult Resource Academy provides adult education, workforce training and career pathways for residents of Crawfordsville and Montgomery County. In addition to adult basic education, the academy offers English language learning classes for students from countries across Central and South America, Russia, Ukraine, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The academy also provides industry-recognized certifications through its American Welding Society program, including MIG and stick welding credentials. Another offering, the ParaPro certification, prepares students to work as teacher’s aides in local school corporations.
