Maple Grove Extension Homemakers

Posted

The Maple Grove Homemakers met at 1:30 p.m. April 20 at the home of Sandra Lightle. President Judy McBride opened the meeting with a welcome to each member. We recited the pledges, Homemaker Creed, and Mission Statement. Roll call was answered with,

“Have you planted any flowers or plants this spring”, and none of the nine members present had started planting. Minutes were read by Rita Kirkpatrick and approved. Treasurer report was given by McBride.

McBride reported that we had eight members from Montgomery County clubs who attended the district meeting held at Brook United Methodist Church on March 30. The main speaker was Brittany Baughman who shared her story about making sourdough bread and selling it from her front porch, however, she has expanded her business. She still has her porch filled with orders that people stop by and pick up and pay by leaving their money in the box. It was a very enjoyable meeting. We saw members from other clubs who we had not seen for a while and the food was very good.

Spring Tea was a big hit this year. The Back Porch Pickers Band played and sang through the meal. Lots of good “ole music” to

entertain us. We had a nice meal and all the tea you would want to sip on. Door prizes were given away and there were buckets made into a woman’s head with all kinds of makeup, jewelry, kerchiefs, hats and lots of good laughs. Thanks to the committee that took care of the entire evening — you all did a bang-up job.

Achievement Night will be May 12. If you are entering a project you need to have it to the 4-H Building between 4-5 p.m. May 11. The Special Category 2026 is a children’s hand/home-made book or toy. Measurement is 18x18x18 and is the maximum size but it can be smaller. Tickets are $18.50 and must be purchased before May 1. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the meal will be served at 6 p.m. Each club is to bring a wrapped door prize that will be given to some lucky winners. The only way to win a door prize is to be present at the meeting. There will be an installation of new officers for the coming year.

Maple Grove’s next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. May 20 at Waynetown Baptist Church and we will be celebrating America 250. Guest speaker will be Diana Vice, America 250 Chair/Historian of the General de Lafayette Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Carol Vice is the hostess for this meeting. All are welcome to attend the Celebration.

A Festival of Choral Music will be presented by the Melody Makers of Indiana Association at 7 p.m. June 2 at River City Community Center in Lafayette.

Minnie Howard shared a health report with us on Mental Health Awareness and how we all need to be aware of their needs. We closed our meeting by reciting the Extension Homemaker’s Prayer. Lightle had some yummy dessert ready for us and we shared stories as we enjoyed the time we shared together.
