Mary Catherine Sorrells, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, at 6:42 p.m., after a lengthy and difficult battle with progressive frontal lobe brain cancer at Franciscan of Crawfordsville. She was 80.
Born Dec. 31, 1945, in Plymouth, Indiana, and adopted by Robert and Mildred Lee, Mary attended Darlington High school and spent her adult life being a homemaker. Occasionally she would babysit and worked a short time at Ben Hur. Growing up in a small town, with not much to offer, yet her favorite restaurants were the Forum, Cracker Barrel and the Chinese restaurant, she also enjoyed going to the covered bridge festivals, and our almost yearly trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee where she enjoyed the Old Mill restaurant and just driving through the mountains.
Mary enjoyed late nights watching TVland, especially I Love Lucy and The Golden Girls. Mary was a strong willed and determined lady but was caring and always willing to help someone out. She spoke her mind and sometimes could be blunt. Most of all Mary was a loving mother and grandmother. Never missing an opportunity to be with the ones she loved. Her love for her Lord comforts her family at this time.
Surviving family includes: daughter Monica Price; sons, Michael Brown and Jeffrey Brown; grandchildren, Tyler, Meghan, Morgan, Zachary, Sara, Kerrie, Kayla and Kyle; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Mason, Luke, Gunner, Alivia, Klaire, Kennah, Hannah, Theo and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Ronald Leroy Brown, who passed in 2015.
Visitation for Mary will be on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Burkhart Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will begin at 1 p.m., led by Ivan Brown. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington. A gathering for family and friends will immediately follow the burial.
