BASEBALL

Panthers beat Mustangs

Fountain Central lost their season opening game 16-6 at home to Wabash River Conference foe Riverton Parke. The Panthers outhit the Mustangs 16-6.

After the Panthers went up 3-0 in the top of the third inning, the Mustangs plated four runs. Mustangs Paul Adams and Asher Davis hit doubles and later scored. Ayden Batchelor also singled in the inning.

Fountain Central’s lead was short lived when Riverton Parke answered with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Panthers added six runs and two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.

The Mustangs committed four errors and the Panthers made five miscues.

Mustang pitcher Nolan Acton recorded the loss on the mound.

Fountain Central (0-1, 0-1 WRC) traveled Tuesday to Riverton Parke (1-3, 1-0 WRC).

 

SOFTBALL

Chargers downed by Panthers

North Montgomery opened their season with a 15-4 home loss to Parke Heritage.

North Montgomery led 4-3 after one inning but was unable to plate any more runs. The Wolves meanwhile took the lead in the second inning with four runs and plated seven in the sixth frame for the six-inning victory.

Parke Heritage outhit the Chargers 12-5. Adding to their woes, North Montgomery committed seven errors in the contest.

Charger sophomore Paisley Gillum had two hits to lead her team’s offense.

North Montgomery sophomore pitcher Kendra McClamroch surrendered three earned runs out of the Wolves’ 15 runs.

The Chargers (0-1) traveled Tuesday to Southmont and will host the Mounties at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Mustangs lose to Panthers

Fountain Central and Riverton Parke were tied 4-4 after one inning, but the Panthers kept scoring and defeated the Mustangs 14-7.

Riverton Parke had 15 hits and committed no errors in the game. Fountain Central recorded nine hits and had eight miscues.

Fountain Central received two hits each from Jackie Weber, Keylee Stonebraker and Mallery Masssey. Weber scored two runs.

The Mustangs (0-1, 0-1 WRC) traveled Tuesday to Riverton Parke (2-1, 1-0 WRC).

 

TENNIS

Chargers down Mavericks

North Montgomery girls tennis team shut out McCutcheon 5-0 on Monday in their season opener at home.

Chargers’ No. 1 singles Kate Merica defeated Ellie Lee 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 singles Cassidy Thomas defeated Maverick Ava Farrer 6-0, 6-0. Caelyn Carpenter at  No. 3 singles defeated Alia Daez 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, Charger No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Kelp and Annie Hess won 6-2, 6-4 and No. 3 doubles of Izzy Shrader and Isabelle Hamby won 6-1, 6-4.

“The girls came out and played great,” Charger coach Chris Cash said. “We were pleased with how the singles players started strong and never let off the gas. They set the tone early for us in the match.”

The Chargers (1-0) play at Parke Heritage on Thursday.

 

GOLF

Chargers win opener

North Montgomery played host to North Putnam at Rocky Ridge Golf Club on Monday and defeated the Cougars 183-199.

Medalist for the match was Charger Brody Roche who shot a 43.

Other Charger scores were Isaac Hamby 44, Jackson Grundy 47 and Hayden Allen 49.

North Montgomery will play Central Catholic on Friday at Battleground Golf Club.
