Phillip Goode, a local Rotary Club member and manager of CEL&P, spoke at a recent Rotary Club meeting. He gave a brief history of how the power plant started, from providing street lights back in 1890 when they were founded to the current solar parks that have been and continue to be constructed. Currently, the solar parks provide 25 mw’s of power which is more than the old coal fired plant provided (20 mw). He said the industry as a whole, continues toward renewable energy. He said batteries will be the key for storage of power after the sun goes down. Under current technology the battery development is 8 to 10 years away from being a reality.
