Astronauts Sharon and Marc Hagle of Winter Park, Florida, celebrated with Mark and Therese Eutsler of Linden the dedication of the Purdue Bands and Orchestras Marc and Sharon Hagle Hall. Marc Hagle, a Purdue alumnus, and Sharon Hagle, founder of SpaceKids Global, contributed $10 million as the lead gift for construction of the four-story, 37,500-square-foot building that serves 1,120 students in 35 curricular and extracurricular instrumental performing ensembles. Their first space flight was aboard Blue Origin NS-20 on March 31. The Eutslers are among 1,554 donors who contributed to the building’s $20 million construction and reserve fund. The new building, at 1091 Third St., in West Lafayette, includes rehearsal halls that are ADA compliant with state-of-the-art acoustics, faculty studios, and student practice rooms and study spaces that are accessible 24 hours a day.
Hagle Hall Dedication
Turkey Run Elementary School K-2 students learned about bicycle safety on Sept. 23. Members of the Indiana Department of Transportation presented Bike IN Safe, a bicycle safety program that provides knowledge and gear for students to ride safely. Following the presentation, students were given a free bike helmet. Funding for the program is provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program. The Turkey Run Elementary fourth grade classes traveled to Indianapolis to tour the Indiana Statehouse. Upon entering the Statehouse, the students gathered under the beauty of the rotunda with its many stained glass panels on the ceiling. The classes were invited into the governor's office. As a part of their tour, they visited the executive, legislative and judicial branches. The students learned the Statehouse was made of Indiana limestone, marble and granite and took 10 years to build. Students learned that Vincennes and Corydon were the capitals before Indianapolis, and Indiana became our 19th state on Dec. 11, 1816.
