The Turkey Run Elementary School Math Bowl Team competed in the district contest held April 9 held at Central Elementary. The competition focused on algebra and covered standards in grades 6-8. Students are expected to have standards in grades K-5 mastered. Questions generally consisted of 6-8 standards. There are four rounds with eight questions in each round. TRES Math Bowl Competes

Photo Provided Parke Heritage Middle School recently experienced a transformation, thanks to the Indiana State Teachers Association and Aspiring Educators through their annual community partnership event, Outreach to Teach. Held on April 13, this event saw PHMS receiving a comprehensive makeover, which included painting the dugouts, making two murals in the hallways, revamping the teacher’s lounge, adding an outdoor court area, painting a crosswalk that students use to the local gas station, updating signs and more. Only one school in the state is selected for this project each year. PHMS math teacher Ashley McAmis nominated the school for this event and worked tirelessly to prepare for the beautification process. The success of the Outreach to Teach event at PHMS was made possible by the remarkable turnout and dedication of over 188 volunteers, including ISTA and AE members, local representatives, as well as, students and staff from PHMS. The transformation of PHMS is a shining example of what can be achieved when educators, students, and the community come together to help enhance the learning environment for students. Pictured are most of the Outreach to Teach volunteers gathered in the PHMS gym for instructions before dispersing to their separate work areas.

Parke Heritage Middle School science teacher Haley Roach, right, has been named one of the Golden Apple Award winners by WTHI Channel 10 in Terre Haute. During one of her afternoon classes, Roach was surprised when there was a knock on her door and Patrece Dayton of Channel 10 entered her classroom and presented her the award. Roach was nominated for the award by sixth grade student Madilynn Schaefer. This nomination demonstrates the profound impact that Roach has on her students. ..The Golden Apple Award is highly selective, with only five educators from the Wabash Valley being honored each year.

Southmont hosts a pep rally Friday afternoon to gear up for Homecoming against the visiting Tigers from Lebanon High School. Principal Jesse Burgess said "we're here to learn, but we're going to have fun along the way" during the event, which saw tugs of war, tricyle races, relays of all kinds, three-legged sack races and a White Castle eating contest.

Chuck Wagoner, a retired art teacher from North Vermillion High School, visited the Parke Heritage Middle School art classes Dec. 7 to inspire the young students with his passion for pottery. Wagoner's love for molding and making clay objects started when he was a young child and played in his grandmother's creek. This led to his first official ceramic pot made in art class in 1974 and since then, he has made thousands of pottery items. During his visit, he shared his techniques for making different pots and encouraged the students to experiment with various art forms. Wagoner's love for pottery has not only been a passion but also a means of giving back to the community. He has worked with Catholic Charities to sell soup bowls that have been made by his former students and sold pottery items for Billie Creek and he currently sells items at Bridgeton. He also emphasized the importance of studying different artists to find inspiration and to develop one's own unique style. Through Wagoner's visit, the students gained valuable insights into the world of pottery and the importance of pursuing one's passion.
