With the recent inclement weather, high school athletic directors are scurrying to get softball and baseball games rescheduled.
Maybe the most pressing rescheduling is happening in the Monon Athletic Conference baseball standings. Three teams, Cascade, Greencastle and North Montgomery have an opportunity to win the league’s championship.
If the Chargers can knock off Cascade twice this week, and Greencastle defeats North Putnam twice, North and Greencastle would be co-champions. If North and Cascade split, the Cadets can at the very least be co-champions with the Tiger Cubs if Greencastle sweeps the Cougars. A loss by North Montgomery or Greencastle will eliminate them from the crown.
If Cascade sweeps North Montgomery, the Chargers would drop to third place or possibly fourth place if Crawfordville sweeps Frankfort.
As of Tuesday, the Hot Dogs and Athenians have identical 7-5 MAC records.
In the MAC softball standings Cascade, who plays Greencastle twice this week, looks to have the championship sewed up. However, Southmont is in the running to finish in second place with the right combination of wins and losses in other MAC games.
If the fourth-place Mounties sweep second place Western Boone this week it could vault them to second or third place depending on the outcome of the two games between third-place North Putnam and fifth-place Greencastle.
Be assured, athletic directors are working to get all games played before next week’s sectional tournaments begin.
