Some lucky people who have reached a certain age recognize and treasure the pleasures of recalling their early school days: remembering friendships and childhood discoveries, experiencing growing into themselves and seeing the world open to numerous possibilities, remembering the wonderful, unforgettable stories that live on and on. Life has taught wise elders to grab joy wherever it exists. An evening designed specifically to grab great good fun is the Alamo Alumni Banquet. Members stand ready, willing and eager to welcome those treasured memories again. The Alamo Alumni community is awfully good at grabbing nostalgic joy.

Fifty-eight years ago in the smallest school in the county in a small village, Alamo residents felt connected to each other. They still do. They come together in impressive numbers and pack the community room at the Alamo Firehouse and celebrate during the annual Alamo Alumni Banquet. This year’s banquet is scheduled for June 6.

This year is special. It is Alamo’s 100th anniversary alumni banquet and members are happily planning a memorable evening. Music will be a big part of the event and arrivals will be greeted with “Celebration,” the inspirational anthem to partying, “Get ready to have a good time! Let’s celebrate!”

Members who wish, may dress in period costumes. Not necessary, but if you’re feeling it, have fun with it. Collect school trivia questions and challenge classmates’ memories in a round of trivial pursuit. Get ready to cheer and honor members of anniversary classes 1946, 1956 and 1966.

A special evening is being prepared for all Alamo Warriors. Come join the fun June 6 at the Alamo Firehouse community room, 4:30 p.m. meet and greet, 5:30 p.m. dinner. Reservations may be sent to Elaine Melvin Weir, 521 E. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville IN 47933, phone 765-366-2560. Dinner is $15 per person.
