Athenian girls win MAC crown

Charger boys and girls each place second

NEW MARKET ­— Crawfordsville’s girls track and field team won the first-ever Monon Athletic Conference championship. The Athenians took first in seven events in the meet held at Southmont.

Due to the wet weather, the running events were run on Friday but field events were postponed to Saturday morning. The format change caused a delay in having official meet results and they were not released until Tuesday evening.

Athenian Alea Seward won three crowns. She won the 200M (26.63) and as a member of two relay teams. Seward joined Alivia Abney, Ally Strickland and Bea Swick to win the 4x100 relay (51.32). In the 4x400 relay (4:15.98) Seward, Caroline Melevage, Ally Johnson and Maesa Horton outdistance second-place Cascade by nearly seven seconds.

The Athenian girls swept the relay races by winning the 4x800 relay (10.35:32). Members were K. Novak, C. Novak, Horton and Melevage.

Crawfordsville’s Sydney Elizondo won the long jump (16-04) and Olivia Jett won the high jump (4-10).

Athenian Abrey Lowe was the 100 Hurdles champion (16:86).

Seward placed second in the 100M dash and K. Novak was second in the 1600M and 3200M. Johnson placed second in the pole vault.

North Montgomery placed second in the girls meet. Charger Ella McManomy won two crowns. The senior won the 100M dash (12.91) and the 400M dash (1:00.35). She placed second in the 200M dash.

Charger Gracie Ratcliff won the 300 hurdles (48:48) and placed second in the 100M hurdles.

Southmont girls best finish was Layla Gomez placing second in shot put and Layla Shaw’s third-place finish in the 100M hurdles and Molly Williams placed third in pole vault.

Team scores for the girls’ meet were Crawfordsville 154, North Montgomery 121, Greencastle 105, Western Boone 69, Cascade 59, Southmont 49, North Putnam 46 and Frankfort 18.

In the boys meet, North Montgomery placed second behind champion Cascade.

North Montgomery earned a championship with the 4x100 relay team (44.17) of Dakota Glasson Eli Peeples, Kayden Cohee and Hunter Haworth.

Charger Clayton Brown won the 200M dash (22.94).

North’s Payton Frazier places second in the 800M and Drew Dark placed second in the 3200M. The Charger boys 4x800 relay team of Dark, Zach Craig, Payson Frazier and Presley Fraizer placed second.

Southmont’s Sam Crum was the 800M (2:06.37) champ. Finishing second was Solomon Mason in the 300M hurdles and 110M hurdles.

Crawfordsville senior Josh Inskeep won the 1600M (4:37.64).

Team scores for the boys’ meet were Cascade 147, North Montgomery 115, Frankfort 90, Western Boone 88, Crawfordsville 80.5, Southmont 59, Greencastle 31, North Putnam 13.5.
