Chargers complete sweep of Athenians

North Montgomery softball took care of business Thursday by defeating county and Monon Athletic Conference rival Crawfordsville 18-1 in five innings.

The Chargers exploded for 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning to propel them to victory.

While the Charger offense was pounding out 14 hits, sophomore pitcher Kendra McClamroch held the Athenians to two hits and striking out 10.

North scored three runs in the first frame to take early control of the game.

Leading the Charger offense was sophomore Sophie Welshimer who was 3-for-4 at the plate with 2-RBI and scoring three runs.

Charger Sophia Long had two hits and 4-RBI. Leadoff hitter Paisley Gillan added two hits and scored four runs. Senior Ella McManomy scored two runs and two stolen bases.

North Montgomery was aided by eight Crawfordsville errors.

Crawfordsville’s Christina Susdorf and Josslynn Simmons each recorded one hit. Molly Pierce scored the one run for CHS.

The Charger win was the second one this week against the Athenians. North won 13-0 on Tuesday. The team has now won six of their last eight games.

North Montgomery (7-12, 4-7 MAC) plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lafayette Central Catholic (2-16). The Chargers will play Monday at Cascade (18-2, 12-0 MAC) and host the Cadets on Tuesday.

Crawfordsville (3-19, 0-12 MAC) played Friday at Seeger (12-10) and will travel Saturday to Frankfort (1-22, 0-12 MAC) before hosting the Hot Dogs on Monday.
