North Montgomery got a yeoman’s effort out of starting pitcher Talyn Sheldon and a couple of late clutch hits to defeat Monon Athletic Conference foe Frankfort on Charger Field. The Chargers defeated the Hot Dogs 4-3.
Sheldon pitched five innings and gave up five runs, two of which were unearned.
Frankfort’s first two runners in the sixth inning reached base and eventually scored when Aiden Ambriz-Cruz gave up a single knotting the score at 3-3.
The Chargers answered with two outs and Lincoln Heide singled. Senior Keaton Brown’s triple down the line in rightfield chased Heide home and put the home team ahead 4-3.
Ambriz-Cruz sat down the first three Hot Dog batters in the last inning to earn the win.
Heide and Brown each had two hits. Sheldon had a single with an RBI.
North outhit Frankfort 9-6.
The Chargers (10-3, 5-3 MAC) played West Lafayette (3-9) Thursday at home. North Montgomery will travel Saturday to Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium to play Lafayette Jefferson (7-7) at 11 a.m.
