Commissioners finalize Nucor Coatings abatement

Posted

Montgomery County Commissioners took their final step to approve the tax abatement plan for Nucor Castings. After the county council approved the action last week, commissioners had to approve the abatement because it lies in a tax increment financing area.

Commissioners also approved an agreement with DES Environmental for the annual environmental sampling effort at the landfill. The agreement continues the work order shared between the city of Crawfordsville and the county for monitoring at the former county landfill. The estimated cost of work to be performed is $24,321 and will be shared evenly with the city.

Commissioners also approved an agreement with the city to have DES Environmental continue work to recap the landfill. This is an ongoing effort by adding soil to the low spots with the hope of eventually getting  the old landfill to a condition that it can be used for other purposes. The estimated cost is $32,639 and will be shared evenly with the city.

Commissioners were reminded by County Administrator Tom Klein that the courthouse re-dedication is scheduled for noon May 6. The event will take place south of the building. The courthouse has undergone renovations on the inside and outside of the building.
