Montgomery County Commissioners and Council members are planning to meet to update each governing body on local happenings and plans. The meeting, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 22, will be an open meeting and the public may attend.
Councilman Steve Loy has been asking for the meeting for some time now. The two bodies have met before and Loy believes a joint meeting is good for ongoing, open communication.
“I am glad we are getting together,” Loy said. “I think it is important we meet together a discuss county business.”
An agenda for the meeting will be produced before the June meeting.
The council was informed of a proposed calendar for the upcoming 2027 budget process. Dates needing to be set are for binding and non-binding budget reviews, advertising, public hearing and adaption meetings. County Auditor Mindy Byers is coordinating the creation of the budget calendar.
Byers reminded those in attendance that June 15 is the appeal deadline for property values. Contact the assessors office to get the process started.
The real estate tax payment period ended Monday. Byers said it was a struggle this year due to all the unhappy people when they received the real estate tax bills in the mail.
“This tax season was really hard,” Byers said. “People were upset. We are all glad it is over except for the appeals.”
Montgomery County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jacob Moore told the council his department has found two men who will begin working as certified interns within the prosecution department. The two men will soon have license to be lawyers. The interns will be able to assist in the large case load facing the prosecutor’s office.
The council added the two positions recently at the request of the prosecutor’s office.
It was announced a retirement party is planned 2-4 p.m. Friday for County Commissioner Executive Assistant Lori Dossett. Friday will be Dossett’s last day and the public is encouraged to attend and shower her with many well wishes. Dossett has worked for the commissioners for 25 years and had other positions in the courthouse since 1979. The celebration will be in the community room at the Montgomery County Government Center.
The next council meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 9 at the Montgomery County Government Center.
