Girls season ends at regional

LAFAYETTE — Local track teams competed Tuesday in the IHSAA regionals. Crawfordsville and North Montgomery competed at Lafayette Jefferson.

Crawfordsville, which has had an exceptional track and field season, placed 16th as a team out of 25 schools scoring points. North Montgomery did not score points in the event. There was a total of 34 teams participating in the Lafayette Regional.

Crawfordsville’s Alea Seward placed seventh in the 200 dash (26.20) and Sydney Elizondo placed seventh in long jump (16-9) and ninth in high jump (4-10).

Other top finishers for the Athenians were Katherine Novak 11th in the 3200m (12:06.40). All three Crawfordsville relay teams performed well. The 4x100 finished 11th and the 4x800 placed eighth. The 4x400 relay placed seventh.

Other Athenian finalists were Alayna Schroeter 16th in discus (94-9) and Caroline Melevage 15th in the 400m dash (1:03.28).

North Montgomery’s Gracie Ratcliff placed ninth in the 100m hurdles (16.11) and 10th in the 300m hurdles (47.96).

The Charger 4x100 relay finished 14th and the 4x400 finished 12th.

Other North finalists were Katelyn Woolwine 15th in the 3200m (13:11.33) and Paige Yarger 14th in the pole vault (8-0).

Charger shot put participants Alyssa Mantesta (32.65) and Abigail Cain (32-2) finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

Carmel won the regional with 116 points followed by Hamilton Southeastern 78 points and Westfield 56 points.

The top three finishers in each event move on to the IHSAA State Finals on June 5 at North Central High School.
