Mayor Todd Barton issued a proclamation Friday recognizing Sept. 13-19 as Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in Crawfordsville.

Barton met with Crawfordsville Adult Resource Academy Director Dr. Meredith Boaz on Friday to present the proclamation.

The recognition comes as CARA also celebrates being named a Program of Excellence by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development for the fourth consecutive year. DWD notified 39 adult education programs across Indiana of the designation this year.

The Program of Excellence designation recognizes adult education programs that meet state and federal measures related to student academic achievement, enrollment, employer partnerships, high-demand wage training and high school equivalencies earned.

“It has been a big year for CARA,” Boaz said.

Boaz said adult education provides opportunities for students to strengthen academic and English language skills, earn a high school equivalency diploma, obtain industry-recognized credentials and develop skills to enter or advance in the workforce.

“I have had the pleasure of witnessing the significant and lasting impact these services can have on individuals, families, and communities,” Boaz said.

CARA and the other programs receiving the Program of Excellence designation will be recognized by DWD Adult Education leadership at the Indiana Association of Adult and Continuing Education award ceremony Sept. 30.
