Mustangs lose to Riverton Parke in championship

MONTEZUMA ­— Fountain Central’s Cinderella ride in the 1A Riverton Parke Baseball Sectional came to an end Monday. The Mustangs lost to the host Panthers 5-0.

Fountain Central could not generate any offense against Riverton Parke starter Bruce Landes. The sophomore gave up only one hit in six innings while striking out nine Mustangs.

Riverton Parke scored one run in the first inning when the first batter of the game, Jackson White, doubled to centerfield and later scored on a sacrifice groundball by Eli Roberts.

The Panthers added one score in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to build a 5-0 score. The score in the fourth frame was a result of a While home run over the left field fence.

While finished the game going 3-for-4 with the homerun and double. The leadoff hitter also scored two runs.

The Mustangs’ lone hit came in the final inning when senior Nolan Acton hit a hard groundball up the middle into center field.

Mustang starting pitcher Ayden Batchelor pitched six innings giving up five runs and striking out five Panthers. Asher Davis pitched the final inning striking out two.

Seniors playing their last game for Fountain Central were Acton, Wyatt Clark, Spencer Krout and Uriah Wildman.

The Mustangs end the season with a record of 8-15.

Riverton Parke (17-12) will play Rossville (18-11) on Saturday. The time and location will be announced later by the IHSAA.
