North Montgomery student activities during the summer months gained approval Monday from the corporation school board. From athletic events to educational opportunities, the students can stay busy in a variety of ways.

North Montgomery Superintendent Dr. Colleen Moran said the summer offerings are designed by coaches and teachers.

“Our students are busy in the summer,” Moran said. “We have all types of activities and the Bratton Adventure trips will be very good.”

Bratton Adventures are trips offered by the school to enhance summer vacation for North middle school and high school students. Trips include a visit to the Dunes and a Beef and Boards performance plus other opportunities.

Jump Start for middle school and elementary students will be July 17-27. Normally the classes were offered in June, but Moran said the later date will be good for the summer.

Several summer sports camps and youth camps were approved as was the Online Academy which offers courses for credit.

Funds to pay for the high school locker room project and middle school roofing project were approved from the rainy day fund in the amount of $2 million.

The board voted to accept an $11,400 grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation to assist students in need of medical and personal hygiene items.

Sugar Creek Elementary was highlighted and students assisted administrators and board members with creative art projects with supplies provided by the school. School teachers also informed the board about a unique program that enables fifth grade students to have a positive impact on kindergarten and first grade students through book reading and interaction.

The board accepted teacher resignations from Colleen Pingle (high school vocal music), Amber Dickerson (high school social studies), Heidi Deters (middle school English) and Katie Baker (high school English).

The board approved the hiring of Megan Burk (high school vocal music), Molly French (high school social studies), Sarah Reed (high school English), Brittany Swaringim (Sugar Creek Grade 1) and Brittany Lausas (Sugar Creek Kindergarten).
