Athenians top Mustangs

Crawfordsville defeated Fountain Central 11-1 in five innings Saturday. Three Athenian hurlers surrendered just two hits, struck out eight and walked just one Mustang.

Crawfordsville Henry Bannon continued his hot start by going 3-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Braiden Scholte had two hits and scored three runs. Matt Miller recorded two RBI.

Landon Gerold started the game for Crawfordsville and pitched the first three innings striking out five. Jayden Jiminez was the winning pitcher and pitched on inning. Bannon pitched one inning and struck out two Mustang batters.

Mustangs Uriah Wildman and Paul Adams each had a hit.

Asher Davis took the loss on the mound.

Fountain Central (0-3, 0-2 WRC) travels Tuesday to South Vermillion. Crawfordsville (4-1, 2-0 MAC) will host Greencastle (6-0, 2-0 MAC) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a big Monon Athletic Conference tilt. The two clubs will meet again at Greencastle on Wednesday.

 

Chargers beat Seeger

North Montgomery played host to Seeger on Friday and won 10-0 in six innings. Sophomore Carter Thompson, in his first pitching appearance of the season, surrendered two hits and struck out five in five innings for the victory.

Aiden Ambriz-Cruz pitched the final two shutout innings in his first pitching effort of the young season.

North had 10 hits in the game. Jack Warren, Tucker Hinds and Keaton Brown each had two hits. Ambriz-Cruz and Lincoln Heide scored two runs apiece. Hinds led the team with three RBI.

North Montgomery (4-0, 2-0 MAC) travels to Western Boone (1-4, 0-2 MAC  at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the rematch scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday on Charger Field.

 

Mounties drop game at home

Southmont lost 8-2 to Clinton Prairie at home on Friday.

The Gophers plated three runs in the first inning, one run in the third and scored runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings, including three in the fifth frame.

The Mounties scored one run each in the second and sixth innings.

Mountie Dean McGaughey led his team with three hits including a double and scored one run. Gunnar Shirk and Eli Hannum each recorded one RBI.

Clinton Prairie had 12 hits against three Mountie pitchers. Southmont hurlers struck out 11 Gophers.

Southmont (0-3, 0-2 MAC) travels to Monon Athletic Conference foe Cascade (2-2, 0-2 MAC) Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game and the two teams will play at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the Mounties’ home field.

 

SOFTBALL

Mustangs drop Athenians

Fountain Central beat Crawfordsville 5-3 on Saturday at Veedersburg.

The Mustangs built a 5-0 lead after four innings before Crawfordsville made the game close with two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth frame.

Fountain Central’s Lillie Bennett held the Athenians to two hits until being relieved by Brailyn Kiger who pitched the final three innings.

Mustang Jackie Weber led the Fountain Central offense two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Athenian starting pitcher had a good outing. The senior pitched five innings and gave up four hits and two runs including one earned run.

Crawfordsville (1-5, 0-2 MAC) plays Monon Athletic Conference foe Greencastle at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at home. On Wednesday, the two teams will play again at 5:30 p.m. at Greencastle.

On Friday, Crawfordsville won its first game of the season against Attica, 12-7.

 

Gophers beat Chargers in five innings

Clinton Prairie played at North Montgomery on Friday and defeated the Chargers 19-5.

The Gophers had 18 hits in the game and the Chargers had eight.

Charger Sophie Welshimer was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and scored a run. Ella McManomy had two hits and two RBI.

Clinton Prairie opened a 9-0 lead after one inning.

North Montgomery (0-4, 0-2 MAC) plays at Clinton Central on Monday. The Chargers play at Western Boone (2-2, 0-2 MAC) Tuesday and again at home on Wednesday.

 

GOLF

Crawfordsville competes in Indy

Crawfordsville played in the Cardinal Ritter Invitational on Saturday and placed 10th out of 16 teams.

The Athenians shot a 377. Crawfordsville was led by Caiden Murray’s 84. Other Athenian scores were Jude Hurt 93, Owen Pierce 95 and Colton Custer 105.

Crawfordsville will next travel to Danville on Thursday for a contest at Twin Bridges Golf Club.

 

Mounties impressive in opener

On Saturday, Southmont started its 2026 campaign with a second place finish out of nine teams at the Clinton Central Invitational at Frankfort Commons. The Mounties fired a 348, only falling to Crown Point’s 330.

Leading the Mounties was Austin Foley with a second-place finish of 79. Following Foley was Carter Ludlow 84, Ethan Hutchison 87, Noah Vogel 98 and Hunter Thompson 107.

The Mountie squad will be back in action Tuesday when they host Clinton Central at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

 

Knights defeat Chargers

North Montgomery fell to Central Catholic 168-174 on Friday.

Charger scores were Isaac Hamby 42, Brody Roche 43, Jackson Grundy 44 and Hayden Allen 45.

The Charger JV lost 202-200.

The Chargers travel Monday to Harrison Hills to face Seeger.
