BASEBALL

Athenians top Cadets

Crawfordsville used a big six-run inning in the fifth frame to defeat homestanding Cascade 10-5. Cascade led 5-4 before the Athenians’ put the game away.

Athenians Henry Bannon and Mason McCarty each scored two runs as did Ethan Campbell.

Campbell hit a bases clearing triple in the fifth inning. Matt Miller recorded three RBI and Jayden Jimenez added two RBI.

Cascade (4-3, 4-1 MAC) was led by Braxton Lewis who had three hits including a home run and 3-RBI.

Crawfordsville’s Henry Bannon earned the victory by pitching seven innings. Bannon surrendered 12 hits, five runs and struck out eight.

The two teams played again Wednesday at Crawfordsville (6-4, 3-2 MAC).

 

Mounties lose to Hot Dogs

Frankfort used a 10-run second inning to defeat Southmont 19-2. The Hot Dogs outhit the Mounties 15-7 in the game.

Frankfort scored five runs in the fifth inning to close out the game in five innings.

Hot Dog Matthew Barry had three hits including two home runs and he had 6-RBI.

Kashon Bushong led Southmont (1-6, 0-5 MAC) with two hits and one RBI.

The two teams played again Wednesday at Frankfort (5-4, 3-2 MAC).

 

Patriots beat Mustangs

Homestanding Seeger defeated Fountain Central 10-2 on Tuesday for a Wabash River Conference win.

Seeger never trailed in the ball game and put the game away by scoring eight runs over the last three at-bats.

Seeger outhit the Mustangs 10-9 but four errors by the visitors placed them in a hole they could not get out.

Fountain Central’s Nolan Acton, Ayden Batchelor, Uriah Wildman and Ryan Mitchell each had two hits.

Seeger (3-5, 3-0 WRC) traveled Wednesday to Fountain Central (1-7, 1-4 WRC).

 

SOFTBALL

Mounties roll past Hot Dogs

Southmont picked up a Monon Athletic Conference win Tuesday at home. The Mounties beat Frankfort 21-1.

Southmont pounded out 19 hits in the game. Neveah Ward, Kaylee Turner, Sammie Crosby and MaKinzie Wood all had three hits. Ella Barry hit a home run.

Crosby pitched all five innings to pick up the win.

Southmont (7-2, 3-2 MAC) traveled Wednesday to Frankfort (0-7, 0-5 MAC) for another conference game.

 

Mustangs lose to Patriots

Visiting Fountain Central lost to Seeger 12-2 in six innings on Tuesday.

The Patriots only scored four earned runs off Mustang pitcher Lillian Bennett who also recorded seven strikeouts.

Mustangs Kailey Daugherty and Mallory Massey had the Mustangs’ two hits in the Wabash River Conference game.

Seeger (5-3, 3-0 WRC) traveled Wednesday to Fountain Central (6-4, 2-3 WRC). The Mustangs will entertain Clay City (5-4) today.

 

Tiger Cubs beat Chargers

Greencastle beat North Montgomery 14-2 on Tuesday at the Chargers’ diamond. Greencastle scored in all seven innings.

The Chargers had six hits led by Julie Birge with two hits.

Mary Kate Patterson took the loss on the mound. She pitched seven innings and gave up 14 runs, walked three and struck out five.

The two clubs met again Wednesday at Greencastle.

 

TENNIS

Athenians sweep Bruins

Crawfordsville defeated Tri-West 5-0 on Tuesday.

Winning for the Athenians were No. 1 singles CC Cox 6-0, 6-1, No. 2 singles Mabel Hoar 6-2, 6-0 and No. 3 singles Kiera Toomey 7-5, 6-3.

The  Crawfordsville No. 1 doubles team of Isla Seward and Alayna Hall 6-2, 6-1 won as did the No. 2 doubles Sarah Melevage and Kiera Toomy 6-4, 6-4.

 

GOLF

Southmont wins 3-way

Southmont defeated Western Boone and North Putnam on Tuesday.

Team scores were Southmont 165, Western Boone 186 and North Putnam 204.

Austin Foley was the match medalist and shot a 38.

Other Mountie scores were Carter Ludlow 40, Ethan Hutchison 43 and Carter Vaught 44.

The Mountie red team also played and scored 182. The Red Team was led by Conner Walls 42, Hunter Thompson 45, Noah Vogel 46 and Jack Sarver 49.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL

Charger 7th beat Athenians

North Montgomery Middle School seventh grade defeated Crawfordsville 14-3 on Tuesday.

The Chargers were led by the pitching of Aaron Welch who threw a complete game. 

Noah Catlin, Sam Grote and Dane Elliott each had two hits for the victors.

Crawfordsville had three hits in the game.

North (3-1) will play today at home against North Putnam.

 

North 8th defeats C’ville

North Montgomery Middle School eighth grade turned away a big comeback by Crawfordsville to win 11-9 on Tuesday on the Chargers’ home field.

North was cruised to a 11-0 lead after three innings but a nine-run fourth inning by the Athenians made the game interesting.

Charger pitcher Cash Cole recorded the win on the mound by pitching three innings giving up one hit and no runs. The Chargers used three pitchers during the Athenian comeback. Charger Ethan King recorded the save.

King had two hits to lead the Chargers who totaled eight hits.

Crawfordsville’s A. Huesca and B. Strickland each had two hits to lead their team.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS

South defeats Lebanon

The Southmont Junior High Girls Tennis Team defeated Lebanon with a strong 5-0 victory.

In singles play, Lea Gregg won 8-5, Ailise Bradshaw dominated with an 8-1 win, and Izzy Roberts secured an 8-4 victory.

Doubles teams also had an impressive showing. Andrea Allen and Rachel Reimondo won 8-1, while Kailyn Howard and Anna Fenton matched that score with another 8-1 win.

Additional wins came from Abigail Badillo and Candice Gillogly, who won 6-2, and Ellie Harshman and Rachel Reimondo, who finished 4-0.

 

Parke Heritage defeats FC, North

The Parke Heritage Middle School girls tennis team defeated Fountain Central, 5-0 on April 16 and North Montgomery, 5-0 on April 20.

Against Fountain Central, No. 1 singles Nora Busenbark defeated Trynity Garrison, 6-0. At No. 2 singles Teagan Pound defeated Emma Bratcher, 6-0, and at No. 3 singles Paige Rose defeated Emma Bratcher, 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles team of Katy Faust and Morrissa Brown defeated Hattie Lawhorn and Avery Banes, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of  Vivian Busenbark and Juliana Wyatt defeated Alaina Markle and Bella Purcell, 6-0.

At No. 4 singles Taylor Snell defeated Avery Anis, 6-3 and at No. 5 singles Oakley Lorenze defeated Alaina Markle, 7-5.

At No. 3 doubles Peyton Tislow and Layla Engle lost to FC’s Trynity Garrison and Hattie Lawhorn, 1-6.

Against North Montgomery, No. 1 singles Busenbark defeated Bella Hutson, 8-1. No. 2 singles Pound defeated Allie Hunter, 8-0. No. 3 singles Rose defeated Madi Horton, 8-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Faust and Brown defeated Millie Snyder and Bryn Fitch, 8-6. The No. 2 doubles team of Busenbark and Wyatt defeated Haleigh King and Emma Davis, 8-1.

The No. 3 doubles team of Snell and Oakley Lorenze defeated Emma Ratcliff and Reese Robinson, 6-0. At No. 4 doubles, Tislow and Engle defeated Ellie Jones and Maddie Sparks, 6-0. At No. 5 doubles, Snell and Lorenze defeated Boston Wheldon and Alexis Funkhouser, 6-0. At No. 6 doubles, Tislow and Engle defeated Estella Newton and Monroe Wilcox, 6-2. At No. 7 doubles, Pound and Busenbark defeated Autumn Blythe and Melanie Braves, 6-0.
