SOFTBALL

Mounties lose in extra innings

Monon Athletic Conference rivals Southmont and North Putnam battled for 13 innings on Monday. Finally, the visitors scored five runs in the top of the final inning to beat the Mounties 10-5.

The game went into extra innings when Southmont tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Two errors by North Putnam allowed the Mounties to tie the game. With two outs, Ella Barry hit a ball to second base where it was bobbled chasing home Kendra Turner which knotted the score at 4 runs apiece.

The Cougars scored in the top of the ninth inning but the Mounties also scored so the score was 5-5 heading into the 10th frame.

After two innings of scoreless softball, the Cougars broke open the game with five errors to make the final score 10-5.

Both starting pitchers battled hard. Southmont’s Ella Barry pitched 157 pitches in 12.1 innings. The sophomore allowed 10 runs on 14 hits and 10 runs, however only seven runs were earned due to five Mountie errors. Barry struck out 19 Cougars.

K. Connor pitched 10 innings for North Putnam and gave up five runs on seven hits and struck out 10.

Cougar T. Detro pitched the final three innings of hitless softball to earn the win.

Southmont (13-3, 6-2 MAC) and North Putnam (12-4, 7-3 MAC) played Tuesday at North Putnam.

 

Clovers defeat Chargers

Cloverdale defeated visiting North Montgomery 18-8 in five innings on Monday.

North Montgomery and the Clovers were tied 8-8 after the top of the fifth inning, but Cloverdale scored seven runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.

The Chargers only produced five hits including three from Sophie Welshimer. The sophomore also scored three runs. Two of the North hits were homeruns. Kendra McClamroch and Welshimer each hit round-trippers.

Charger pitcher McClamroch suffered the loss. The sophomore gave up 17 runs but only five were earned due to five Charger errors.

North Montgomery (5-12, 2-7 MAC) played MAC and county rival Crawfordsville (3-17, 0-10) Tuesday at home. The two teams will meet again Thursday at Crawfordsville.

 

Athenians beat Knights

Crawfordsville won 12-5 on Monday at Lafayette Central Catholic.

Trailing 4-2, the Athenians scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Crawfordsville added another five runs in the sixth inning to take command of the game.

Athenian Christina Susdorf was 3-for-5 with 4-RBI.

Senior Molly Pierce picked up the win on the mound. Pierce struck out five.

Crawfordsville (3-17, 0-10 MAC) played Tuesday at North Montgomery (5-12, 2-7 MAC) and will play the Chargers on Saturday at home.

 

BASEBALL

Mounties lose at home

Visiting North Putnam defeated Southmont 7-2 in a Monon Athletic Conference game. The Cougars used three first-inning runs to produce the win.

North Putnam jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings. The Mounties did not score again until their last at-bat.

Southmont had six hits. Phisher Benge and Gunnar Shirk each had two hits for the Mounties. Shirk had a double.

The Mountie defense committed four errors. Of the Cougars’ seven runs, only two were earned.

Southmont (3-12, 1-10 MAC) traveled Tuesday to North Putnam (4-14, 1-10 MAC). The Mounties will be off until Monday when they travel to Western Boone (11-9, 5-5 MAC).

 

GOLF

Chargers fall to Tiger Cubs

North Montgomery was defeated by Greencastle 158-174 on Monday.

Chargers scores were Isaac Hamby 41, Hayden Allen 44, Brody Roche 44 and Jackson Grundy 45.

North Montgomery’s junior varsity was defeated 204-224.

North scores were Dylan Priddy 50, Mason Mills 54, Braylon Denham 56 and Cole Yeager 64. 

The Chargers played host Tuesday to West Lafayette at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.

 

South places second out of 8 teams

The Southmont team placed second in a field of eight Saturday at Tiger Pointe in Greencastle. 

The Mounties shot a season low 318 falling only to Greencastle at 315. 

Austin Foley led the Mounties with a T2 finish at 74, one stroke off medalist. 

Other Mountie scores were Carter Ludlow and Noah Vogel 79, Ethan Hutchison 86 and Carson Vaught 90.

 

TENNIS

Mustangs beat Red Devils

Fountain Central played host to West Lafayette on Monday. The Mustangs won 3-2.

Mustang winners were No. 2  singles Laney Hoagland over Emily Zhou 6-1, 6-3, No. 3 singles Esme Muniz over Sophie Lee 6-3, 6-4 and No. 1 doubles Savannah Bowers and Lilly Peterson defeated Rylee DeVault and Neha Das 6-4, 6-2.

West Lafayette winners were No. 1 singles Emma Garringer over Elise Webb 6-0, 6-3 and No. 2 doubles Jessica Reingold and Jiuru Klu over Jayden Larkin and Rya Jackson 7-6 (5), 6-0.

Fountain Central will play host to Benton Central Thursday.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Conference results delayed

Monon Athletic Conference teams are still awaiting official results from Friday’s conference track meet at Southmont. Due to the wet and cold weather, field events were moved to Saturday morning.

Southmont officials reported Saturday results to the official timer/scorekeeping company before final results can be produced. As of Monday evening, final results were still not available.

After Friday, Crawfordsville girls were leading and Cascade boys were leading. North Montgomery boys and girls were both in second place.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL

Charger 8th loses at Cascade

North Montgomery Middle School’s eighth grade team lost at Cascade 6-3 on Monday. The game was limited to just four innings.

The game was tied 3-3 after three innings but the Cadets scored three in the bottom of the fourth before time expired.

North received hits from Cash Cole, Carson Neal and a triple from Trevor Hintz.

Cascade had four hits but were aided by three Charger errors.

North Montgomery’s record is now 8-2.

 

TRAVEL SOCCER

MC United U-19 girls win

Montgomery County United’s U-19 girls team picked up a 5-1 victory over the CYSC Comets on Saturday at Fisher Field on the Wabash College campus.

Reva Douglas, Susan Montero, Annalyse Slider, Alexa Whitlow and Scarlett Martinez each scored once for Montgomery County United. Olivia Hood and Colee Cunningham recorded one assist in the win. Katie Adkins, Addison Johnson, Riley Robinson, and Sophia Scott-Musa anchored the MC defense that limited the Comets to just one goal.

In goal, Emily Simpson had eight blocks.

MC United will be back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday when they host Boilers FC at Southmont High School.

 

SWIMMING

SCSC members compete at Indy Spring Cup

Three members of the Sugar Creek Swim Club participated May 6-9 in the 2026 Indy Spring Cup, a long-course, metered event at the IU Natatorium.

In the boys competition, Henry Hoar, age 17, placed 28th in the open 100 breaststroke, 1:11.62; placed 26th in the open 200 butterfly, 2:23.16; placed 22nd in the open 50 breaststroke, 32.30; placed 29th in the open 50 butterfly, 27.56; placed 28th in the open 200 breaststroke, 2:45.92; and placed 29th in the open 100 butterfly, 1:01.02.

Marshall Templeman, age 16, placed 19th in the open 100 breaststroke, 1:07.24; placed 18th in the open 50 breaststroke, 30.68; placed 20th in the open 200 breaststroke, 2:27.71; and placed 30th in the open 200 individual medley, 2:21.37.

In the girls competition, Dusty Robinson, age 18, placed 22nd in the open 50 backstroke, 33.14.
