SOFTBALL
Mounties lose to Bruins
Southmont traveled Thursday to Tri-West and played their second extra inning game of the week. The game was another pitching dual with the Bruins winning with the game’s only run in the ninth inning.
Mountie Ella Barry and Bruin Natalie Tharp went toe-to-toe on the pitching mound. Both pitchers allowed only three hits. Barry struck out nine and Tharp recorded six strikeouts.
The winning run was due to the only Mountie fielding error in the game.
The Mounties could not capitalize on three Bruin errors.
Barry, Kenzie Douglas and Makinzie Wood each had a hit for Southmont.
The Mounties have now lost three consecutive games for the first time this season.
Southmont (13-5, 8-4 MAC) will travel Monday to MAC rival Western Boone (14-5, 9-3 MAC) and will host the Stars on Tuesday to conclude the regular season.
BASEBALL
Mustangs lose to Bison
Fountain Central dropped a 13-8 game Thursday at Benton Central. With the scored tied at 4-4 after three innings, the Bison scored nine consecutive runs to win.
Fountain Central did score four runs in the top of the seventh inning but the Bison lead was too much to overcome.
Mustang Joan Cervantes led his team by going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring two runs. Wyatt Clark recorded two RBI. Aiden Batchelor stayed hot by collecting two hits including a double.
Benton Central had 14 hits and Fountain Central recorded 12 hits.
Bison Wiese and Winkler each had three hits.
Fountain Central (5-12, 5-7 WRC) will travel Saturday to Wabash River Conference rival Parke Heritage (8-12, 5-6 WRC) for a doubleheader.
TENNIS
Bison down Mustangs
Fountain Central battled undefeated Benton Central but fell short by a score of 3-2.
The Bison earned the win by winning all three singles matches in straight sets.
Fountain Central No. 1 Doubles team of Savannah Bowers and Lilly Peterson won 6-2, 6-2 and the Mustang No. 2 Doubles team of Jayden Larkin and Rya Johnson beat Skyler Smith and Olivia Hardebeck 6-2. 6-3.
Next up for the Mustangs will be the Wabash River Conference Singles and Doubles Tournament on Saturday at Fountain Central.
IHSAA to draw sectional
The IHSAA will draw for the sectionals on Sunday and the pairing show can be viewed at 7 p.m. online at IHSAAtv.org.
Competition begins Tuesday.
