Chargers win fourth in a row

North Montgomery won its fourth straight game Saturday by beating Eminence 10-2.

The Chargers scored nine runs in their last three at-bats after the Eels led 2-1 after 3.5 innings.

North had 13 hits in the game.

Charger Paisley Gillan was 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored two runs. Sophie Welshimer, Kendra McClamroch and Hope Delp each had two hits.

McClamroch pitched and went the distance on the mound for the home team. She allowed six hits, two runs and recorded 10 strikeouts.

On Friday, North Montgomery went to Sheridan and won 13-10.

The Chargers had 13 hits in the game. Welshimer had four RBI on two hits.

Other North players with two hits were Gillan, K. McClain, Ella McManomy and Delp. Sophia Long had a 3-RBI home run.

M. McClain pitched four innings in relief and gave up one hit and one run while striking out four.

The Chargers (5-10, 2-6 MAC) play at Monon Athletic Conference rival North Putnam (9-4, 5-3 MAC) Tuesday and will play the Cougars at home on Wednesday.

 

Athenians drop two games

Crawfordsville was defeated Friday by Parke Heritage 14-4 in six innings.

The Wolves scored in every inning except in the first. The Athenians led 1-0 after the first inning.

The Athenians were led offensively by Tori Truax who had two hits and two RBI.

On Saturday, the Athenians lost at Covington 18-8.

Despite scoring four runs in the first inning, the Athenians could not keep up with the Trojans.

Covington put up 15 runs in their last three at-bats to put the game out of reach for Crawfordsville.

The Athenians had 10 hits led by Molly Pierce and Christina Susdorf who each had three hits. Addison Haulk and Laikyn Dowell recorded two hits apiece.

Crawfordsville (2-15, 0-8 MAC) will play host to Western Boone (9-5, 5-3 MAC) on Tuesday and will travel to Dover to play the Stars on Wednesday.

 

Southmont wins nail-biter

Southmont defeated Riverton Parke 1-0 on Friday at home.

Mountie pitcher Ella Barry dominated the Wolves. Barry surrendered just one hit and struck out 15 Wolves. She issued just two walks.

The Mounties scored the game’s only run in the third inning when Kaylee Turner hit a solo home run. Southmont had three hits in the game.

Riverton Parke’s one hit came in the final inning. However, the runner was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Southmont (11-2, MAC 6-2) will play host Tuesday to Greencastle (11-5, 7-3 MAC) and the two clubs will play Wednesday at Greencastle.

 

BASEBALL

Chargers beat Lafayette Jeff

North Montgomery played at Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium and defeated Lafayette Jefferson 7-4.

Senior Jack Warren made his first pitching performance of the season and pitched five innings to pick up the win. Warren gave up four runs on six hits and struck out five.

Charger Lucky Young earned the save by pitching two innings of hitless ball and striking out two.

North Montgomery out hit the Bronchos 11-6.

The Charger offense was led by Aiden Ambriz-Cruz who went 3-for-4 scoring one run with two RBI.

Keaton Brown scored two runs with two hits and Warren had two hits.

North Montgomery (12-3, MAC 5-3) played Monday at North Putnam (2-12, 0-8 MAC) and will host the Cougars on Wednesday in Monon Athletic Conference action.

 

Athenians beat Bison

Crawfordsville traveled Friday to Benton Central and defeated the Bison 7-3.

Athenian pitcher Landon Gerold earned the win. The junior gave up six hits and struck out seven.

Crawfordsville was led offensively by Matt Miller who was 1-for-2 and with two RBI. Austin Campbell scored two runs.

The Athenians scored three runs in the top of the third and never lost the lead in the game.

Benton Central (6-10) committed four errors in the game and Crawfordsville had only one miscue.

 

Danville stops Athenians

Danville defeated visiting Crawfordsville 3-1 on Saturday.

Danville broke into the scoring column first with one run in the third inning.

The Athenians scored their run in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score 1-1.

Danville answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Athenian Mason McCarty stole home with two outs. McCarty opened the inning with a single and stole second. He went to third base on a single from Matt Miller sitting up the tying run.

Danville answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Warriors had two hits in the inning and a sacrifice fly. The Athenians also had an error in the inning.

Crawfordsville starter Henry Bannon pitched three innings and gave up one run and struck out three. Relief pitcher Ethan Campbell pitched the last three innings and gave up two runs on three hits.

Crawfordsville (8-9, 4-4 MAC) will host Monon Athletic Conference foe Western Boone (10-6, 5-3) on Tuesday and travel Wednesday to Western Boone.

 

Seeger defeats Mounties

Home-standing Seeger defeated Southmont 8-7 on Friday. The Mounties attempted comeback fell short in the final inning.

Leading 2-1, the Patriots scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to take a 7-1 lead.

The Mounties scored six runs in their last three at-bats with the tying run at third base when the final out was made.

Mounties Gunnar Shirk and Cooper Scott each had two hits. Dean McGaughey was 1-for-1 and scored two runs. Kason Bushong also scored twice.

Southmont (3-9) travels Monday to Monon Athletic Conference foe Greencastle and will play the Tiger Cubs on Wednesday at home.

 

TENNIS

Chargers blank Hot Dogs

North Montgomery defeated Frankfort 5-0 on Friday.

Winning for the Chargers were No. 1 singles Kate Merica 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 singles Cassidy Thomas 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 singles Caelyn Carpenter won 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Kelp and Isabelle Hamby won 6-0, 6-0 and the No. 2 doubles team of Annie Hess and Scarlette Hamm won 6-0, 6-1.
