Athenians win 3-way
Crawfordsville played at Crawfordsville Municipal Course and outshot two other teams.
Crawfordsville carded a 177, Seeger shot a 912 and Attica scored 233.
Athenian Cade Murray was medalist with a 44. Owen Pierce and Jude Hurt also scored 44 apiece. Jordan Archer shot a 45.
Crawfordsville will host McCutcheon on Wednesday at the Crawfordsville Municipal Course.
SOFTBALL
Mounties sweep Tiger Cubs
Southmont played Monon Athletic Conference rival Greencastle on Thursday and swept a doubleheader. The Mounties won the first game 5-2 and the second game 8-1.
In the first game, Southmont pitcher Ella Barry struck out 12 batters. Barry allowed two hits.
Southmont opened the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs. The score remained 2-0 until Greencastle tied the score with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
It didn’t take long for South to regain the lead. In the bottom half of the fifth frame, Southmont answered with three runs to go up 5-2.
Barry was 2-for-3 at the plate with 3-RBI. The sophomore scored one run.
MaKinzie Wood was 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
The Mounties total seven hits.
In the twilight game, Barry had a big game at the plate. She went 3-for-3 with 3-RBI and scored a run with a home run. Kenzie Clate added two hits and Kaylee Turner hit a home run as the Mounties totaled nine hits.
Barry also pitched the second game and gave up four hits and one run in her second complete game of the evening.
Southmont (12-2, 6-2 MAC) played Clinton Central (5-9-1) on Friday and will play at home against North Putnam (11-4, 7-3 MAC) on Monday.
Mustangs beat Attica
Fountain Central played host to Attica on Thursday and won an exciting 15-14 game.
Mustang Kailey Daugherty delivered the walk off victory when she singled to drive in Patience Bixler with two outs recorded.
Bixler picked up the win by pitching 6.1 innings recording eight strikeouts.
Fountain Central had 13 hits in the game. Daugherty led the way with three hits.
The Mustangs (8-9, 4-7 WRC) played at North Putnam (11-4) Friday and will play at home against Clinton Prairie (8-7) on Monday.
BASEBALL
Tiger Cubs sweep Mounties
Southmont played a Monon Athletic Conference doubleheader at home on Thursday. Greencastle won the first game 16-0 and the second game 8-0.
In the first game, Southmont’s starting pitcher had a rough outing. The senior surrendered 11 runs in three innings.
Southmont had four hits in the five-inning contest.
Greencastle’s Trevor Long and Codey Scott each had three of the Tiger Cubs’ 13 total hits.
In the second game, the Mounties collected only two hits. Greencastle had seven hits and were aided by three Mountie errors.
Southmont (3-10, 1-8 MAC) played Friday at West Vigo (11-5) and will play host Monday to MAC foe North Putnam (3-14, 0-10 MAC) and travel to North Putnam on Tuesday.
Mustangs earn a home win
Fountain Central defeated Attica 7-5 at home on Thursday. The Mustangs led 6-0 early and held off a late Red Rambler rally.
The score was tied 1-1 after one inning, Fountain Central added four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning.
Mustang Bryson Ross had two hits with 3-RBI. Tucker Ashwill had 2-RBI. Nolan Acton was 2-for-2 and scored two runs.
Ayden Batchelor was the winning pitcher. He pitched five innings and gave up five hits and five runs.
Asher Davis pitched the final two innings and did not give up a hit and struck out five to earn the save.
Fountain Central (5-9, 5-6 WRC) will play Monday at Sheridan (7-8) and will play Tuesday at Attica (7-8, 3-6 WRC).
MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL
Chargers 8th beat Mounties
North Montgomery Middle School eighth grade defeated Southmont 15-2 in a home game.
The game was called due to a time limit after 2.5 innings. The Chargers scored 10 runs in second inning and are now 9-0 on the season.
Carson Neal was 3-for-3 with 3-RBI. Ethan King scored three runs and had two hits. Cash Cole and Kaiden Grundy each added two hits. The Chargers had 14 hits in the game.
Charger starter Paxton Heide pitched three innings for the win.
