Volunteers gather Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the General Lew Wallace Study and Museum for National American Battlefield Trust Park Day, where 25 community members assisted with seasonal cleanup and improvements. The site is the only participating historical location in Indiana for the annual initiative that has been going on for three decades, bringing volunteers together at battlefields and historic sites across the country for preservation efforts. Locally, volunteers completed projects including mulching, clearing leaves and branches, dividing perennials, building new picnic tables and installing signage throughout the grounds. Grounds manager Deb King said the work is vital in preparing the museum for its upcoming season of tours and events, including ArchiCamp and Taste of Montgomery County.
