Chargers defeat Lebanon
North Montgomery went to Lebanon on Thursday and came home with a 3-2 victory over the Tigers.
Winning for the Chargers were No. 1 singles Kate Merica over Anna Howard 6-3, 6-4 and No. 2 singles Cassidy Thomas defeated Lueic Cassis 6-2, 6-2. No. 3 singles Caelyn Carpenter beat Emily Clouse 5-1, 6-1.
Lebanon prevailed in the doubles matches. No. 1 doubles Lana Haimoua and Allie Niebuas defeated Annie Hess and Scarlett Hamm 6-7 (5), 6-1, 13-11 and No. 2 doubles Autumn Jones and Mya Nelsa defeated Izzy Shrader and Isabelle Hamby 6-4, 6-0.
Mounties lose at Seeger
Southmont was defeated by Seeger 4-1 on Thursday.
The Mountie’s lone win was at No. 1 doubles when Haylee Hall and Jozee Jones teamed up for a 6-4, 6-2 win.
TRACK AND FIELD
Chargers step up in competition
Three former Sagamore Athletic Conference teams, Lebanon, Danville and the Chargers, came together at North Montgomery on Thursday.
Lebanon snuck by the Chargers to win the girls meet and Lebanon outdistanced the field to win the boys meet.
Scores for the girls were Lebanon 64, North Montgomery 57 and Danville 45. The boys scores were Lebanon 87, Danville 54 and North Montgomery 26.
Charger Ella McManomy won three events. The senior won the 100M dash (12.11), 200M dash (26.26) and long jump 15”3 ½’.
Chargers Colee Cunningham, Mady Holt, Anna Cain and Peyton Yarger won the 4x100 (54.19) and Alyssa Mantesta won shot put (33”1 ¼”).
Gracie Ratcliff won the 300M hurdles (47.99).
No Charger boys won an event.
Athenians participate in 4-way
Crawfordsville girls won a four-way meet on Thursday. The Athenians won 10 out of 16 events. Scores for the meet were Crawfordsville 108, Cascade 54, Western Boone 44 and North Putnam 38.
Winning for Crawfordsville were Bea Swick 100M (12.96), Alea Seward 100M (26.71), Caroline Melevage 400M (1:03.11), Aubrey Lowe 100 hurdles (17.71), Olivia Abney, Swick, Seward, Ally Strickland 4x100 (51.57), Melevage, Johnson, Seward, Masea Horton 4x400 (4:17.56), Katherine Novak, Horton, Melanie Dowd and Melevage 4x800 (11.00.82), Sydney Elizondo high jump (4-10), Elizondo long jump (16-06) and discus Alayna Schroeder discus (91-10).
Boys team scores were Cascade 105, Crawfordsville 61.5, Western Boone 57.5 and North Putnam 15.
The Athenians’ Johnovan Smith, Alex Sanchez, Andrew Hurt and Daniel Surface won the 4x400 (3:39.34) for the team’s lone win.
Mustangs compete in Bi-County
Fountain Central’s Parker won 100 hurdles in the girls meet and the Mustang 4x100 relay team won.
No Mustangs won a boys event.
SOFTBALL
Mustangs lose on the road
Fountain Central lost 14-3 in five innings at Clay City (5-2) on Thursday.
The Mustangs were shut out until they scored three runs in their last at-bat.
Fountain Central had nine hits but could not get runners across the plate.
Kailey Daugherty had three hits and Mallory Massey had two hits for the Mustangs.
Fountain Central (6-6, 2-4 WRC) will play a doubleheader today at North Vermillion (0-8, 0-5 WRC).
MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL
North 8th grade stays unbeaten
North Montgomery Middle School’s eighth grade defeated North Putnam 7-0 on Thursday to remain undefeated (5-0) on the season.
Charger Cash Cole had a 2-RBI single to help his team score four runs in the third inning. Ethan King went 2-for-3 at the plate including a double.
Carson Neal picked up the win on the mound. The righty gave up four hits and struck out two while walking two in the shutout.
Charger 7th grade wins
North Montgomery seventh grader Daniel Murdock drove in five runs with two hits to lead the Chargers to a 23-6 victory over North Putnam on Thursday.
Murdock hit a home run driving in three runs in the second inning. Drake Elliott, Hunter Delp, Aaron Welch, Hudson Lewis, Warren Emmert and Lucas Woolwine also had hits that drove in runs.
Bryson Stephens earned the win for the Chargers with four strikeouts on the mound. The Chargers will face Tecumseh on Tuesday at home.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS
Southmont defeats Mustangs
Southmont traveled to Fountain Central on Thursday and won 5-0.
Southmont swept all singles matches, led by Lea Gregg, who shut out Trynity Garrison with an 8-0 win. Ailise Bradshaw followed with an 8-1 victory over Alaina Markle and Izzy Roberts defeated Avery Banes 8-3.
In doubles action, No. 1 Andrea Allen and Rachel Reimondo won 8-2, while Kailyn Howard and Anna Fenton closed out the match with an 8-1 victory against Bella Purcell and Lauryn Newlin.
