Walnut Twp. fire service continues despite disagreements

Posted

NEW ROSS — The Walnut Township Advisory Board held an emergency meeting Wednesday at the Walnut Township Volunteer Fire Department to address events from last week’s regularly scheduled board meeting, during which several members of the department walked out, including Fire Chief Kyle McHargue.

The walkout came after McHargue asked for the resignation of one of the advisory board members. Advisory board members are elected positions.

During last week’s meeting, Walnut Township Trustee Melody Davis contacted the Montgomery County Central Communications Center and informed dispatch that the Walnut Township Volunteer Fire Department was no longer in service at that time.

At Wednesday’s emergency meeting, board members addressed community concerns regarding the department’s status and told residents the fire department is operating and functioning normally.

Officials said the department has remained in service since the end of last week’s meeting, with 13 members currently on the fire department roster and McHargue continuing to serve as fire chief.

Attempts to reach McHargue and members of the township advisory board individually for comment were unsuccessful.
