Waynetown Street Festival adds features

WAYNETOWN — Saturday’s annual Waynetown Street Festival will have something old and something new.

The old is the number of vendors participating and the new includes an antique tractor, lawnmower and car show plus a carnival. A community-wide yard sale also is planned.

The festival, which takes place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, will feature vendors, carnival and an antique car, tractor and lawnmower show.

Organizers wanted to bring a carnival to try to simulate when the town’s fish fry was in the same location.

“Ever since the fish fry moved to the park, there have been people saying they miss it being downtown,” organizer Kyle Proctor said. “Since the fish fry has grown so big and would not fit along South Vine Street, we thought bringing a carnival to the street fair would be fun. Add in the antique tractors and cars, people should feel the nostalgia and enjoy themselves even more.”

More than 50 vendors have signed up for the May 9 event. There will be arts, crafts, kid-friendly activities and food booths along South Vine.

The carnival will be located at the corner of South Vine and Walnut streets just like it was during the downtown fish fry many years ago.

The car, tractor and lawnmower show will be located along North Vine Street. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon. Show hours are noon to 4 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee and prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m.

Town-wide yard sales also will be included this year.
