Alice Ellen (Irwin) Stonecipher, 91, Hillsboro, passed away in the Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation Center, on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at 12:11 a.m. with her two daughters by her side.
Alice was born at home in Veedersburg (Sterling) on July 1, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Leo R. and Thelma Louise (Boord) Irwin. Alice was raised in Sterling and graduated from Veedersburg High School.
On Dec. 12, 1954, Alice married James Gordon Stonecipher in Veedersburg. Gordon preceded Alice in death on July 27, 2013.
Alice and her husband moved to Hillsboro in 1992. She enjoyed farming with her father-in-law, Harry Stonecipher.
Alice was a former member of the Mellott Community Church and was presently a member of the Community Bible Baptist Church in Veedersburg. She enjoyed bowling and bowled on leagues in Covington and Shawnee Lanes. She was an avid sports fan and followed the Chicago Cubs, Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts. She attended many of these games during her lifetime. She enjoyed taking long drives and visiting with her friends at the Chatterbox Café in Hillsboro and the Apple Tree in Veedersburg. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida.
Alice leaves behind her two daughters, Vickie (the late-Gary) Austin, Mellott, and Sharon Stonecipher, Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Travis Edwards, Dusty Edwards, Jason (Brandy) Austin, Matt (Jamie) Austin, Kristen (Dillon) Scott, Alan (Malia) Wells, Josh Stonecipher and Jennifer Steinsdoerfer; nine great-grandchildren, Brody Edwards, Korbin Edwards, Treyton Edwards, Avery Austin, Gentry Austin, Nevin Goodwin, Isabella Scott, Sadie Scott and Teagan Scott; sister Mim Keeling, Veedersburg.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Teresa Stonecipher and Lisa Ratcliff.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, on Monday, Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Evan Sharbaugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
