Athenians bounce Chargers
Crawfordsville and North Montgomery opened the IHSAA Cascade Sectional on Monday.
Crawfordsville scored in the second half to win 1-0 over their county rivals.
With the score 0-0 Athenian Ally Johnson scored on a touch of the ball to send her team to the quarterfinals.
The Athenians (11-4-1) will face off against Danville (11-5) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
North Montgomery finished their season with a 10-6-1 record. The Charger seniors were Paige Yarger, Gracie Ratcliff and Courtney Bennett.
VOLLEYBALL
Gophers down Athenians
Crawfordsville played host Monday to Clinton Prairie (13-14). The Gophers beat the Athenians 3-1.
Set scores were 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-25.
Crawfordsville coaches did not provide their players’ statistics.
The Athenians (16-11, 3-3 MAC)) played in their Senior Night Game against Frankfort (18-7, 3-3 MAC) on Tuesday.
Mounties beat Monrovia
Southmont traveled to Monrovia on Monday and won 3-0.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-19, 25-22.
Mountie player statistics were not reported by coaches.
Southmont (10-10) played at Seeger (4-20) on Tuesday.
IHSAA conducts sectional draw
The IHSAA conducted the state volleyball draw. Area teams will be competing in three different sectional locations.
3A- Crawfordsville Sectional No. 25
Crawfordsville will open the six-team tournament against Tri-West at 6 p.m. Oct. 15.
North Montgomery will play Danville in the 7:45 game on Oct. 15.
At 11 a.m. on Oct. 17 Frankfort will play the winner of Game 1 followed by Lebanon playing the winner of Game 2 in the semi-finals.
The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Oct. 17.
2A- Southmont Sectional No. 41
The eight-team tournament will begin Oct. 13 with Monrovia battling South Vermillion followed by Cascade playing South Putnam.
Southmont will play at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 against North Putnam following the 6 p.m. Parke Heritage versus Greencastle game.
The semi-finals are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 17.
The championship will be played at 6 p.m. Oct.17.
1A- Covington Sectional No. 53
The six-team sectional will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 when Lafayette Central Catholic plays Covington. Following the first game North Vermillion and Riverton Parke will take the court.
Beginning at 11 a.m. on Oct. 17 Attica will play the winner of Game 1 and Fountain Central will play the winner of Game 2.
The championship will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 17.
