Gary Dale Grimes, 71, of Crawfordsville passed away in his home at 10:33 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2026, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Crawfordsville on Sept. 22, 1954, to Alva and Vivian Caldwell Grimes. Gary was a 1972 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. While still in high school he began working at Crown Cork and Seal as a pressman and worked for 43 years until retirement.
On Oct. 17, 1975, Gary married Rhoda Joan Snyder at the Yountsville Church. Gary was known for his outgoing personality and loved making others laugh. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and IU basketball. Gary loved spending time with family and especially loved spending time with his grandkids. After retirement he wintered in Florida and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving family includes: wife Rhoda Grimes; sons, Jason (Krystal) Grimes, Jeremy Grimes and Justin (Jenna) Grimes; and grandkids, Claire Grimes, Mason Grimes, Allyson Grimes, Andrew Grimes, Benjamin Grimes, Brantley Grimes, Owen Grimes and Audrey Grimes.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Sue Collins, Sharon Bahney and Cheryl Gano.

Visitation for Gary will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, with service starting at 2 p.m. led by Denny Morgan at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W Wabash Ave.
