L. Lee Abney of Crawfordsville passed away Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2026, at the age of 80.
Lee enjoyed coon hunting. He drove a stock car at several local tracks and enjoyed tinkering with cars. He worked most of his life as a painter. Lee was a good man who raised a good family.
Born Aug. 7, 1945, in Crawfordsville, he was the son of John F. Abney and Edith Abney Norton. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School. He married the former Phyllis King on Dec. 12, 1963 in Roachdale. She survives.
Surviving family includes: wife Phyllis Abney of Crawfordsville; three sons, Jeff Abney (Lori), Greg Abney (Charlene) and Shane Abney (Jennifer); daughter Angie Abney; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Terry Abney; and sister Pam McIntyre.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Mike, Dude and Gary Abney.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, July 6 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave. Services will begin at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Steve Lee. After the service, he will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
