Paul Vilas Vaught

Sept. 13, 1975-May 13, 2026

Paul Vilas Vaught was born Sept. 13, 1975, at Culver Union Hospital in Crawfordsville, to Harlan and Susan (Bellendir) Vaught of Ladoga. Paul was the eldest of three sons, followed by Ryan (wife Kandra Painter) Vaught and James (Kristin Kilby) Vaught. He was also a proud uncle to his nephews, Kale and Carson Vaught.

Paul spent his life doing what he loved most: farming. He was a member of Southmont FFA Chapter, he was awarded Indiana State Star Farmer in 1996. He was a dedicated steward of the land. Paul didn’t farm alone, it was a family affair along with his six hired men referred to as the A team — the day shift, and the B team — the evening shift. At the end of harvest Paul, Kale and Carson host the yearly Corn Party. It is a time to be thankful for the bountiful harvest with fellowship of family, friends and neighbors just to eat and visit.

Paul along with other leaders, continued the 4-H Tractor Maintenance project after his father retired as the instructor. For the past several years, 4-H members would meet in Farmer Paul’s shop every Saturday in June to tear apart engines and learn how to drive or hone their skills with Lawn and Garden or Ag tractor  before the County fair in July.

Paul enjoyed spending time with family and friends. As long as there was food and or good game of Euchre, King Oil, High Bid, or Tonk — with his nephews he was all in. They all played to win, with no exceptions for age. While others worked on puzzles, Paul generally considered them a waste of time, though he always made sure to contribute exactly one piece to every puzzle.

No matter how busy he was, nine times out of ten he enjoyed spending lunch time with friends at Applebee’s. He truly enjoyed life.

Services will be held at 5 p.m. May 25 at Paul’s shop, followed by a celebration of life. Please note: this is a change of plans from cemetery services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montgomery County Community Fund,
